Many times strangers to me and my boat ask ”Have you ever been in a bad storm” to which I answer in a bemused fashion, ”Can’t think that I have”.
Is the measure of ones survival the severity of the weather? I think not. Perhaps staying awake for 36 hours single-handed in the Gulf of Lions might be! I did this and it scared me for life!
Ever since sleep-deprivation has been a curse for me. As to storms; I don’t have problems I have challenges. Although when asked what I like to do I answer ”Sit at anchor and watch a movie”! That’s rather flippant, really I love to sail with all sails up in 20 knots true and a flat sea; seldom happens though!
Adventures:
Clogged fuel lines and entry to an anchorage under dinghy power with novice crew calling the English coastguard from cellphones in Italy. I guess an adventure for them, for me just another challenge (which I overcame easily, without the coastguards help).
Sailing back from Cuba to Jamaica and anchoring using my emergency tiller after squashing a hydraulic line. No big deal.
